Boeing-GKN deal is a victory for American union manufacturing and St. Louis

In an uncertain landscape, Boeing’s recent acquisition of the GKN Aerospace facility in Hazelwood stands as a beacon of hope for American manufacturing. This significant development secures jobs for 420 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 387 (District 837) members. It underscores the importance of preserving and strengthening our nation’s industrial base.

For the IAM, this victory culminates in a concerted effort to defend American manufacturing and our members’ livelihoods. When news broke of the plant’s closure in 2022, the IAM stood firm and worked with Missouri’s elected officials and the community to preserve the family-sustaining jobs at GKN Aerospace. Our bipartisan collaboration exemplifies collective action’s power in protecting workers’ interests and fostering economic resilience.

The U.S. aerospace industry, the largest and most technologically advanced in the world, is not just about innovation and technology. It’s about supporting regional economies, creating massive manufacturing hubs, and powering our country’s economy with good jobs. Our work in this industry is not just about aerospace, it’s about the economic well-being of communities.
