What Federal Workers Need to Know About a Government Shutdown

The federal government partially shut down at midnight on Saturday, December 22, 2018. This means that the lives of federal employees are again affected by Congress and the White House’s failure to do their job.

“Our members in the federal sector are once again dealing with the consequences of political squabbles in Washington,” said IAM International President Bob Martinez. “These hard-working men and women deserve the support of our elected officials, not a shutdown during the holidays. We are using every resource necessary to keep our federal workers informed during this needless shutdown.”

As of December 22, the following departments and agencies are already funded for fiscal year 2019:

  • Army Corps of Engineers
  • Department of Defense
  • Department of Education
  • Department of Energy
  • Department of Health and Human Services
  • Bureau of Reclamation, Department of the Interior
  • Department of Labor
  • Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
  • Nuclear Regulatory Commission
  • Social Security Administration

The following departments and agencies have NOT been funded and are affected by a government shutdown:
